It runs? NP all the way.

I'd say that's a NP.

NP for sure runs and drives, stick shift, and 1500 if it wasnt on the other side of the country I'd buy it right now and even though it is I'm still debating on it.

How much of it is FeO2?

Find an Opponaut in Michigan willing to pick it up for you???

You best move quick, $700 shipping that thing will be in my driveway.

Thats a tough one, that body is RUUUUUSTY and the miles are low (sitting a long time). NP if you are up for a challenge.

I'm not sure I can take on another project but god damn that thing is tempting.
![]() 07/23/2014 at 14:34 |

as a gift to my fellow opponaut I will let you have it. This truly a difficult and selfless act on my part not at all spurred by the fact I can't afford another project.

I yearn to one day own something old and awesome like this in a fixed up state. Restorations are pretty difficult to price, but what might be best to budget for something like this?

I have no clue, it wont be super cheap to do, but thats why it super cheap to start off with. There arent to many pics, so you cant see it there is just surface rust or it it goes deep. No interior pics, but I assume its bad. It will need a new paint job too.

Your generosity is admirable, however, I'm so buried in projects that I keep having to repeat (like a chant) "I can't own them all." I will also note, that there's an engineless one in the Seattle area for $1000. As the FJ40 straight six isn't even a good anchor, it's actually a bonus that the motor is gone (I live in the Seattle area).... again, the mantra "I can't own them all"

you could pick up one of my favorite engines a 302/351 Windsor for maybe 300 and dump it into said cruiser too.

its an old yota, drop in a new battery, change the oil, and giveer some fresh gas, and away you go!
![]() 07/23/2014 at 15:19 |
|
It really depends on the car, obviously. You could spend anywhere from 10 to 50,000 dollars on that Land Cruiser depending on how rusty it is and how nice a resto you want to do. You're usually better off spending a little more at the beginning on a solid car, than buying a cheap basket case. Also, you'll never get your restoration money back. Most cars will not be worth what you've put into it. But, don't let that deter you. Old cars are a wonderful adventure and my life would not be complete without them.

I'm thinking 4bt, nv4500 5 speed. I've had 7 of these things, two had Ford 302s, the other 5 had the straight 6. I think the 302 is a good motor for them because the gearing makes up for the lack of torque in the 302... that said, I'm a GM guy, so if I were to do gas - it'd be a 350 or 383.

I'm a ford guy what can I say. That's definitely a good setup though. That said how can you have owned 7 of these???

It's like Pringles, you can't just have one.

mmm Pringles out of curiosity what are your current projects.

I'll let you google them (I go by superbuickguy on forums) SAR POSH, Sledanette, CTS Spider - those are the majors, I also have a 75 Corvette, and an 08 Hummer that gets love on occasion.

Mean cant you just rattle them off or provide handy links??

You know I just read through all 33 pages of your sledannette post and all I can say s holy shit. You have serious talent and I can't believe you managed all that work by yourself. Second holy shit I'm jealous your garage/shop is incredible. Third how is your dog with low platelets doing? Is she certified for search and rescue yet?

Thanks.
I've been doing car stuff since I was pretty young, so what you see is years worth of collection.
She was retired because we can't get her off the medicine the suppresses her immune system. She was one trail from certification. It's really sucky, but sometimes life is shit. We have another bloodhound now for trailing - now Stella (the sick pooch) is just a pissed-off house dog (my wife just left with dog 2, and Stella knows she's going trailing - much whining is happening).
I haven't updated that thread in awhile since I'm still waiting on the machine work on the block (that and I have other things that needed doing) - but I have another dog as well, and English Mastiff named Buick.... you can see why I'd name him such :)

is it cause you love fords??? That sucks to hear about Stella and I hope you manage to get her off the meds eventually. Also I'm not sure a twin turbo v8 spider or a soon to be 900hp classic drag car are part of most peoples collections. I really do need to stress how jealous I am that you have such a nice shop at your house especially a lift.

I get far more enjoyment building them than I ever do driving them - I can't imagine this set will be any different. Of course, the Corvette is the exception to the rule - it's so slow, loud, and hard to drive that every time I drive it I can't get the stupid grin off my face.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 11:34 |

well I definitely wish I had your talent at building cars to say the least. It's also a good merging you like building them cause your projects are things that most people would consider crazy.

Join BS.com - it's amazing how helpful the people are on that site when it comes to supporting others in their automotive afflictions. Having a cheering section behind you really does help get past the times when the project seems insurmountable or of infinite length.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 19:15 |
|
what 4 years is insurmountable now? But you're definitely right having people support you in a project is a huge help.
![]() 07/25/2014 at 14:42 |
|
insurmountable = big projects - like the Sedanet will take 5 to 10 years to complete.... at times, it seems like forever - especially if you do something that later you realize won't work...
![]() 07/25/2014 at 14:59 |
|
yea that's about the definition of insurmountable. Having to back track is one of the most depressing parts of working on a car and most people give up well before 5 years let alone ten rolls around. You know you should post links to these projects in oppo these are really impressive especially how much you've done.

I'd rather they all continue to believe I'm a clueless Luddite.

...and even more cars - I blame this OL for my most recent purchase, a 1971 Land Cruiser FJ45... I really didn't need another 4x4.... ah well - everyone should have at least 8 FJ45s in their lifetime.... though at this rate, I'll have had 16 before I turn to dust.
![]() 08/08/2014 at 00:59 |

I do a lot of cars (it beats TV imo), and I mostly break even, but I'm not even that upset when it's a 2:1 money spent:sold rate because I generally get 1x the purchase price in enjoyment from it.
